Made with Hovis® Granary® Medium Sliced

Preparation time: 20 mins

Cook time: 25 mins

Serves 6

Ingredients

  • For the fruit base:
  • 4 medium apples (peeled, cored, diced)
  • 3 ripe pears (peeled, cored, diced)
  • 200g mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
  • 3 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • For the Hovis crumble topping:
  • 7 slices Hovis bread (Seeded, Granary, or Wholemeal work best for texture)
  • 150g unsalted butter (melted)
  • 75g light brown sugar
  • 1¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Tip

For extra texture, toast the Hovis® breadcrumbs lightly in the oven before mixing with the butter and sugar. It adds an even crispier finish to your crumble topping and a delicious bakery-style aroma.

Method

1

Peel, core, and dice the apples and pears, then combine them with the berries, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a saucepan. Simmer gently for about 10 minutes, until the fruit softens but still holds its shape and spoon the mixture evenly into jars or ramekins, filling them about halfway.

2

Tear the Hovis® bread into chunks and blitz in a food processor until you have medium, uneven crumbs - not too fine. In a large bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Pour over the melted butter, stirring until everything is evenly coated and slightly clumpy.

3

Spoon the crumble mixture over the fruit base. Bake at 180°C (160°C fan) for 20–25 minutes, until golden and crisp on top but still buttery underneath. If it starts to brown too quickly, cover loosely with foil for the final few minutes.
