Cook time: 35 minutes

Serves 1

Ingredients

  • 2 Hovis® Premium Hot Dog Rolls
  • 2 Sausages
  • 1/2 Large onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 Tbsp vegetable oil (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1/2 Tsp sugar
  • 1/2 Tbsp vinegar (balsamic or cider)
  • 2 Slices of cheese (such as cheddar or American-style)
  • Sliced gherkins (optional)
  • Sauce or your favourite condiments

Tip

You can put together a quick sauce, mixing 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons of mustard and 1 teaspoon of ketchup! Let your Sausage dog "supervise" from a safe distance while you cook (instant charm for Hot Dog Day photos!)

Method

1

Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onion, a pinch of salt and the sugar. Cook for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft, golden and slightly charred in places. Add the vinegar and cook for a few more minutes until the onions are caramelised and jammy. Set aside.

2

Add oil to a frying pan and cook them over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, until evenly browned. Lay a slice of cheese over each and cover the pan with a lid or foil for a minute or two until the cheese melts.

Some reddish pieces from within the hot dogs are visible where the cheese hasn't covered them. In the blurred background, another frying pan can be seen, containing what appears to be cooked onions or other ingredients. The overall scene suggests a cooking process, possibly for hot dogs or sausages.
3

Place the cheesy hot dogs into the rolls, then top with the onions, gherkins and sauce, or any condiments you love. Woooof you’re all done, enjoy!
