Leftover Beef & Caramelised Onion Grilled Cheese

Who knew leftovers could taste this good? Beef, caramelised onions, and melted cheese meet between buttery, crispy bread. Crispy, melty, and packed with flavour in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 4 Slices of Hovis® Signature White
  • 2 Slices of cheese (cheddar, Gruyère, or your choice)
  • 1 Tsp olive oil
  • 2 Slices of leftover beef (thinly sliced)
  • 1 Onion (thinly sliced)
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Tip

Craving an extra kick? A hint of wholegrain mustard or horseradish sauce on the unbuttered bread adds a delightful tang!

Method

Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes until soft, golden, and caramelised. Set aside.

Butter one side of each slice of Hovis® Signature White. On the unbuttered side, layer the cheese, then add a generous amount of the caramelised onions and sliced leftover beef. Season with a little pepper. Top with the other slice.

Heat a pan over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the pan, buttered side down. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, pressing gently, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted.

Remove the sandwich from the pan, slice it in half, and serve hot. You can garnish with fresh herbs or a salad if you like.
