"I am Head of Legal for Hovis® and am therefore responsible for the company's legal and regulatory compliance. Having qualified as a commercial solicitor in private practice, I was keen to move in house, so that I could immerse myself within a business and provide practical, legally sound advice to contribute to a business' success. It is an honour, and also a huge responsibility, to be working for such an iconic British brand as Hovis®. The legal and regulatory team is small but our remit is extremely broad. We cover everything from drafting commercial contracts, approving all packaging/marketing communications and managing Hovis'® intellectual property portfolio to providing company secretarial support and advice on compliance with laws. Whilst this means we are always extremely busy, the breadth of work means no one day is ever the same which is something that I relish. The greatest thing about Hovis® (other than its bread - Seed Sensations® being my favourite) is the people and the collective passion that everyone has for the Hovis® brand. It is a great team to be a part of!"
“My Dad was an Engineer. Always taking things apart and fixing things, and I think that must have rubbed off on me. I was a Technician on the machines for two years and I saw the effect that even the smallest breakdown could have on production, which led me towards Engineering. I wanted to know exactly how the machines work, how to fix them when they go wrong and how to prevent them from going wrong in the first place. Obviously, there’s a lot of pressure to fix things as quickly as possible but there’s also the huge satisfaction of getting them working again. We’re learning all the time from the more experienced engineers, and because we work very much as a team, they’re only too happy to help.”
“As Financial Controller, I’m all about the money. I have to ensure we follow all financial rules and regulations, that we pay all staff and suppliers correctly and on time, and that our customers do the same for us. I also have to make sure we have the right financial controls and processes in place to protect the Company's assets.
I worked for a large global company before Hovis® but I wanted to move to a job where I could play a more intrinsic role, involved in all areas and getting to know the business inside out. After 12 months here that’s exactly how I feel. It’s a very friendly place to work – people are engaged and committed. We do work hard but we also have fun.
In finance, we’re precise and supportive towards the whole business. When someone here takes on a task – any task - you can rely on them to do it properly.
Favourite Hovis® product? Unfortunately, I have a gluten intolerance so most bread is out of bounds for me. Though Wholemeal loaf is a big favourite with my family.”
“I’ve worked for Hovis® for six years. I’m now responsible for all aspects of logistics at Avonmouth. Our customers are all over the South West so we have to get Hovis® out to an awful lot of people.
I have a long affinity with the brand; my Grandad had a bakery in Swansea and used to buy his flour from Hovis®. My Dad was also a baker, so it just feels natural for me to be here. Avonmouth is a great place to work; people always do their best and we all take responsibility for what we do. Loyalty and happiness are massive, we have lots of people who’ve been very happy here for many years. As a manager, I know that if we all make our own areas the best they can be, we raise standards even higher.
Favourite Hovis® product? Seeded Batch. It was great before but now it’s even better. Though I am also partial to a bacon sandwich on Hovis® Soft White at the weekend.“
“I’ve worked for Hovis® for 14 years. I grew up in Glasgow near the Hovis® bakery, so I have a strong connection to the brand. I have overall responsibility for the HR shared service centre and HR systems for our business so I have a real passion and understanding for making sure our colleagues experience the best levels of service in their colleague life cycle with us whilst experiencing advanced and accessible HR systems available to all. Every day is different and I enjoy that diversity as well as interacting with colleagues throughout the business at all levels.
I place trust right at the heart of how I work with my team and this is essential to drive responsibility and performance; I lead by example and keep the business values in mind so I can help my team and our people in any way I can.
My favourite Hovis® product is the Mothers Pride Plain loaf; it is such a unique product! I’m proud of the quality and consistency that we are known for and I feel we reflect that quality in the work that we do every day. We are a strong unit at Hovis®; there is a real passion behind the brand and it has evolved so much, we are like a family that has grown together.”
"I am the Technical Manager for our Forest Gate site, I am responsible for ensuring the products we produce at the site are produced safely, legally and meet the expectation our consumers have come to love and enjoy over the years. It gives me much pride to be working for such an iconic British brand as Hovis®. On a day to day basis there is a sense that we are working towards one vision, and I see us making strides towards it every day.
Every day is different, challenging and exciting!
Favourite Hovis product? I absolutely love the variety of products we produce across the sites but my absolute favourite is the Hovis Seed Sensations®."
"I love working for Hovis® because it has become my 2nd family over the last 14 years, I have celebrated weddings and several births and made some lifelong friendships. During my career with Hovis I have been given many opportunities to develop and progress with encouragement and support along the way. Hovis has played a major part in my life both professionally and personally......I met my husband here!
"I have worked for Hovis® Erith since 2005 starting as a bagger operator on the 45 sack line. Over the years I've progressed and I'm now an FLM (Front Line Manager). I'm a subject matter expert on all 4 lines and can operate any of the job stations - there are 36 in total.
