    My Hovis story
Over the last year and a half at Hovis, I’ve been lucky enough to work in several different areas of finance. I started out in Logistics Finance, reviewing a number of the southern sites, from Dagenham to Nottingham. I met loads of great personalities along the way, but after nine months I was invited to join FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis). In this new role I consolidated the forecasting process and simplified SG&A (Selling, General & Administrative Expenses), which gave me real insight into the business as a whole. Not long after, I was offered another opportunity that was too good to pass up: owning the New Product Development P&Ls (Profit and Loss Statements) in the Commercial Finance team.

    Why I love Hovis
It didn’t take me long to discover that, with the right attitude, you can go anywhere in Hovis. I love being part of an ever-moving private equity company where there’s plenty of room to learn and develop.

    My Hovis story
I’ve been at Hovis for over 9 years, and I’m still learning new things and being challenged, every day.

I love working for an iconic brand that’s thriving in a competitive market. The company is structured in such a way that you’re given responsibility and autonomy to deliver success, which is important to me. What’s more, you also get the opportunity to experience – and influence decisions in – so many areas of the business.

I began as a National Account Executive on Tesco, and was quickly promoted to Business Account Manger on Waitrose. Later, Musgraves and JS Morning Goods were added to my portfolio. During this time, I also spent a year in a cross functional role in Market Strategy & Planning.

Now, as a Business Unit Manager, I’m kept busy managing the Tesco business – a role which I’ve been in since 2012. Being given the opportunity to work in a variety of roles is one of the key reasons I’m still with Hovis today.

I’ve really developed professionally during my time here – from fine-tuning my negotiation skills through Gap Training and leading negotiations, to truly understanding how an iconic food brand needs to operate from a cross-functional perspective.

    Why I love Hovis
Despite Hovis' size in the UK food industry, there’s a real sense of family to its structure and culture. That’s one of the big reasons – along with the scope of opportunity – why I’ve chosen to spend most of my career here.

    My Hovis story
I’d just finished a year at Selby College when I applied to Rank Hovis: a new initiative created by Alan Boyce, the Engineering Manager at Rank Hovis, Selby. The application and interview process were tough and there was a lot of competition, but I was happy to get the first apprenticeship in many years.

I was very grateful for the opportunity as it meant I could continue my training at Selby Mill and work alongside engineers with over 40 years’ experience. And, as I was able to earn and learn, I had the freedom to progress in my personal life too.

Rank Hovis has given me plenty of opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t have come my way. And I’m learning the skills of the trade much faster than I would have done just being at college.

I’ve got my Folk Lift Truck and MEWP licences, and I’ve done several specialised training courses, including process control and maintaining thermal oil boilers. I’ve also been studying nabim (National Association of British and Irish Flour Millers) modules, and I’m about to start my second. These have given me the specific knowledge needed for working in the flour industry.

    Why I love Hovis
It’s a very welcoming place and I’ve been made to feel very much a part of the team. And a lot of the people I work with have been here for many years, which reinforce the company’s notions of heritage and integrity.

I feel lucky that Rank Hovis has given me the chance to launch my career as an Electrical Engineer, and I look forward to expanding my abilities throughout my time here.

    My Hovis story
I’ve always been into cooking and baking, so I was over the moon when I got onto a graduate scheme at Hovis, Forest Gate. I spent two years there, first as a Project Engineer and then as a Front Line Manager for the ingredients department.

In 2012, I moved to Glasgow and spent a year as a Process Improvement Manager. And, now, I’m my happiest baking fresh loaves every day as Head Baker.

During my time at Hovis, I’ve gained experience in capital projects, managing people, managing business improvements at site level and, more recently, process and quality improvements.

    Why I love Hovis
Hovis is a fast-moving, ever-changing business, and it’s really interesting to see it move through its various transitions and changes. I’m a big fan of the products and the way we make them too.

What’s more, the people on site are great, which makes coming to work a pleasure.

    My Hovis story
I began my career at Hovis on a programme called Feeding Briton’s Future. I worked my way up the ranks, and have been in production for two years, creating our new Nimble and Good Inside bakery ranges.

It’s been a lot of fun, but what’s really exciting is seeing the products you’ve worked so hard on finally coming to life.

    Why I love Hovis
Since working here, I’ve gained experience, learned new skills, and met some amazing people. It’s rewarding to know you’re working with such a bright group of people who share the same passion as you for making great products.

    My Hovis story
I was one of the lucky few to join Hovis’ new Engineering Apprenticeship Programme in 2014. I am now responsible for proactive and reactive maintenance on the Milling plants. I shadow the engineers on breakdowns and every day presents fresh challenges, so I’m learning new things all the time.

Since starting, I have received excellent guidance and opportunities to develop. I’ve already completed my NVQ Level 2 in Advanced Engineering and am currently studying towards my NVQ Level 3. It’s great to be able to put what I’ve learnt at work towards my college modules. I have also been trained in driving and operating mobile elevated working platforms (MEWPs).

My short-term ambition is to become a fully qualified multi-skilled Shift Engineer in a Site Engineering Manager’s position. Then I might develop myself further into a manufacturing management role.

    Why I love Hovis
It’s a very fast-paced business, where I am able to put my studies into practice and continue to learn while on the job. I feel really supported by the site team and have been involved in a number of engineering projects. What’s more, I’ve even been nominated to be an Apprenticeship Ambassador for the Greater Manchester region.

Above everything, I enjoy going to work. Hovis is a brilliant brand and I’m proud to be associated with it, especially when I see our loaves in shops and I think, ‘I helped make that’.

    Mossend

    My Hovis story
Few people can say they’ve worked for the same company for over 44 years, but I can! I started out at Hovis in 1971 as an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter in Grimsby, back when we were called RHM Bakeries. I soon moved from Fitter to Foreman, and was later promoted to Transport and Engineering Manager. Then, in 1991, I took the same position in Newcastle. Since 1995, I’ve been Area Transport and Engineer Manager in Mossend (a role which began in Glasgow).

It’s been an exciting journey as I’ve had the opportunity to work my way up the ranks, develop my leadership and management skills, and learn plenty of new things in the ever-evolving transport sector.

    Why I love Hovis
Hovis is a reputable company, and a well-known and respected brand. There’s never a dull moment and I enjoy tackling new challenges every day. The people here are brilliant too, and I’ve been lucky enough to work with plenty across many sites. Everyone pulls together, works hard and is always really friendly and supportive. On top of all that, the quality of our products has remained consistently high ever since the day I started.

    HR Manager

    My Hovis story
I was working in various HR roles for leading FMCG businesses before I joined Hovis in 2013 as a site Senior HR Advisor.

In 2014, I was nominated to take part in the company-wide High Potential Programme as I was keen to move up the ladder into a more senior role. It was a great move because it helped me to be promoted to HR Manager, working across two sites.

I’m now responsible for shaping and influencing the people plan in line with the business strategy and goals. I’m really proud of the work we’ve done, especially on employee engagement. We’ve helped people to feel more part of the team and brought them on board with our business goals. We’ve also implemented a new Engineering Apprenticeship Programme, which has allowed us to recruit five engineering apprentices. It’s a real investment in our future and has wider benefits for our existing engineering teams who act as mentors and buddies.

Lately, I’ve also been busy getting more involved in business-wide activities and projects, including rolling out the Success Factors platform – an integrated platform for centralised HR services.

    Why I love Hovis
I truly believe that Hovis is an amazing organisation. It’s full of great people and there are plenty of opportunities for personal development across our multiple sites, for those who want to take them.

Hovis has given me the opportunity to complete my CIPD Level 7, which is important for my on-going professional development and making me a more effective manager and leader. Although I have only been here for a relatively short period of time, I have developed well and have aspirations to progress further and stay with the business for the long term.

    My Hovis story
I was just 16 when I became an Apprentice Baker in Belfast, and I’ve been on an exciting career journey ever since!

I’ve been lucky enough to travel around the business, meet lots of people, and take on many different roles, including Technical Assistant, Site Trainer, Finished Goods Supervisor, and Technical Services Officer. Nowadays, I’m a Manufacturing Front Line Manager.

I’ve always worked full-time, but I got to study part time too. Hovis has helped me to gain NVQs, a Bakery Diploma, a foundation degree in Food Manufacturing and a BSC Honours degree in Food Technology. The combination of on-the-job training and college has meant I’ve built up a vast knowledge of the bakery industry. And being able to link my studies to project work has certainly made things more interesting

    Why I love Hovis
The people and the company’s passionate culture make Hovis such a great place to work. There is so many committed and passionate people here, that it really rubs off!

It’s a company that’s always willing to support your career progression, so I know – even though I’ve been here for 13 years – that there’s still plenty of room to further my career.

    My Hovis story
Since joining Hovis in 2014, there have been heaps of opportunities for me to learn and move up through the company.

It’s meant that I have become fascinated with food and baking! I’ve gained so much knowledge during my time here that I look forward to learning even more new things, every day.

Professional development is a big priority for Hovis, and I’m seeing real career progression as a result. I like that there’s a strong culture that offers mutual support, promotes trust, rewards employees’ efforts and makes sure they know their work is meaningful.

    Why I love Hovis

    My Hovis story
I’ve worked as a Delivery Driver at Hovis for 13 years. I spent 11 years in the Radial department, and now I’m in the Primary department.

Ever since I got my HGV Class 1 driving license, I’ve been delivering bread and flour all over the UK. I now have my CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) too, which means I’m fully up to speed with working time regulations and transport laws.

    Why I love Hovis
I am proud to say I work for Hovis as I think it’s the best bread product on the market. The brand alone stands out from the crowd, especially when I’m driving my 45-foot yellow trailer!

It’s a great place to work, too, and a lot of its down to the great people at Mossend HQ. There’s always a pleasant atmosphere on site, which makes coming to work enjoyable.
